Being able to collaborate is one of the skills that can determine the true depth of leadership inside of someone. For 5th grader, Karis Barron at Russellville Intermediate School, including everyone at the table is the key to bringing positivity in and outside of the classroom.
When it comes to learning, Karis believes learning together is the best part of being in the school environment. Whether completing group work or sharing affirmations, Karis leads her classmates in ensuring a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Karis says she enjoys helping her classmates because helping others learn is important. “I like to make sure everyone has a friend and has help with their work.”
Russellville Intermediate School Principal, Laura Binz, says “If anyone is having a bad day and they talk to Karis, their mood is lifted. She is great at including all students and encouraging them to try their best. Karis’s presence is always noticed.”
“In class, students do a lot of table work and some students can get frustrated when their table isn’t staying on task. However, Karis uses Capturing Kids’ Hearts strategies, her tone, and affirmations to get all students to participate, “ commented Karis’ teacher, Ashleigh Moore.
Karis was recognized at the February RSD Board of Education Meeting for being an Inclusive Collaborator! This recognition comes from the RSD Profile of the Graduate, which outlines the attributes RSD graduates will encompass when they graduate.
