Russellville Cross Country takes 3 of 4 divisions at home meet
On Saturday close to 1600 cross country runners descended on the ATU campus for the annual Cyclone Invitational. 68 teams competed across 4 divisions. The Cyclone is the longest running high school meet in Arkansas created by hall of fame coach Don Carnahan in 1973.
Russellville teams had another tremendous day winning 3 of the 4 divisions. The course was challenging with some tight turns. The varsity boys had a huge day. Junior Carson Walker continues to lead, finishing 3rd overall. Steady senior Jax Smith was 6th. The big surprise was the surge by Oliver Castro,Cooper Rogers,Amnol Shresta and Jeremy Amaya. The pack went 20-23 all medaled and had big PR’s. The Cyclones won by 22 points.
The varsity girls also won their division defeating second place Conway by 20 points. The girls did a tremendous job pack running as well. Grace Ruple, Anna DeCosta, Emerson Brown and Alyvia Davis went 10,11,13,15 to medal and set the tone for victory. Quinn Schaefer, Addison Cox and Anna Beth Miller also packed well.
The Junior Boys had the most dominating performance, winning by close to 100 points! Asher Trigg was overall medalist for the first time, finishing 1st out of 366 entries. Classmate Issac Paul was 5th. Energetic 8th grader Austin Lindsey was 9th. Brantley Martin and Hank Walker medaled and rounded out the scoring.
The Jr. girls had a great day as well, finishing 4th out of 21 full teams. Talented 8th graders Shaleigh Jackson and Caroline Payne medaled. Areana Alvarez, Claire Miller and Zola Prati rounded out the scoring.
The varsity teams return to action this Saturday Oct 3 at the Chili Pepper in Fayetteville. Grades 7-9 will travel the same day to Ozark for the Hillbilly Run.
