Russellville School District held its annual Employee Recognition and Retirement Ceremony on Thursday, May 17, at The Center for the Arts. The district recognized employees who are retiring from the district, the Teachers of the Year, and the Classified Employees of the Year. Michael Roys, a teacher at Russellville Middle School, was selected as the RSD Teacher of the Year, and Sara Gordon, a paraprofessional at Sequoyah Elementary, was selected as the RSD Classified Employee of the Year. \r\n
\r\nThe ceremony began with the district acknowledging employees that will be retiring from the district at the end of the school year. Those employees were presented with a plaque in recognition for their years of service. Thank you to the following employees for their years of service at Russellville School District: \r\n
\r\n- Sheila Jacobs, 19 years in the district, 28 years teaching\r\n
- Karla Powell, 15 years\r\n
- Max Hines, 38 years\r\n
- Glennda Mosley, 17 years\r\n
- Marlena Mashburn, 24 years\r\n
- Terry McAlister, 33 years\r\n
The RSD Teacher of the Year is chosen by a district level panel that reviews a nomination from each of the schools in the district. The RSD Teacher of the Year will then go on to compete in the Arkansas Teacher of the Year (ATOY) program, which is part of the National Teacher of the Year program (NTOY). NTOY began in 1952 and continues as the oldest, most prestigious national honors program that focuses public attention on excellence in teaching. The Teachers of the Year were recognized with an engraved nameplate and a monetary contribution from St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Blackstone Construction/Duffield Gravel Company, and Rose Drug. The Classified Employees of the Year were recognized with an engraved tumbler and a monetary contribution from Roy’s Heating and Air.
